father daughter weekend

hanging out @ barefoot landing... (Libby's in the teal shirt in the back...)
Here Penny is signing car to Clyde.

Clyde has a sweet tradition with the girls. Every year, he takes them out of town for a weekend trip...hence father daughter weekend. They usually go to Myrtle Beach for their trip, staying with Grammy and Papa. This year was no different. With the schedule that we keep, it is important for the Wardlings to bond with Daddy. He is gone, either with work, soccer, graduate classes and so some days go by without seeing each other for very long. The weekend was established so that he can see them and get to know them better. He loves his weekend with his girls. He looks forward to it every year. I love that he does this with the girls. This was Penny's first Father/ daughter weekend. She has been too little, or still nursing, and has had to miss out on the fun. This year, however, she was big enough and eating solid foods, so she got to go. For the past week, I have been quizzing Clyde on all the signs that Penny does to communicate. She signs quite a bit, so if you don't know what she is saying, then it looks like jibbery hand signals. Clyde said that she would come up to him and sign when she was thirsty, or needed to have her diaper changed...anything that she needed. I like that she can now communicate with us. She has also begun to say Dada... which was perfect timing for their trip. She loves Daddy!
