curler girl

Once the older kids headed off to school, Penny dug under our downstairs bathroom cabinet. She found Erin and Libby's polish and curlers. She insisted that I polish her nails and curl her hair. She wore this around for at least an hour this morning.
Once she was all dolled up, she ran over an hugged Jacob. These 2 are really close, which is pretty cool.
Yet another pose to share.

freezer climb

We have a family rule that the brown stool isn't supposed to be in the kitchen, which explains why it is always in there. I went in one morning to check on a very quiet Penny. She was caught, sitting on our chest freezer, helping herself to the snack rack. She had used the brown stool to climb up onto the freezer. Well, I have to give her an A+ for all of her hard work. Maybe she had, "un un'ed" and tried to tell me that she wanted a granola bar, but when I didn't respond, she got it herself. She has such sassy determination to get what she wants...wonder where she got that?!
She is so very proud of herself here.

lunch @ Grandma Cecil's

Here Penny and I are with my sweet Grandma. Traditionally, we have Thanksgiving @ my folks' house. This year we had lunch @ Grandma's. Dad fried the turkey, which was perfectly done and very delicious. Mom made her great pies and sides. Most importantly Aunt June made her famous "green stuff." (It is this pistacho, marshmellow, pineapple stuff that is always yummy @ Thanksgiving and Christmas.) We enjoyed spending time with my Aunt June and some of the cousins. We caught up with some family members and ate, ate, ate. This was a fun Thanksgiving day!

Jacob and Ty

Apart of today's fun was stick fighting... Ty vs. Jacob.

These are Ty's battle wounds. Jacob got him pretty good @ several different points. Ty is older and much bigger than Jacob, however, Jacob gave him a pretty good fight. Once the stick fighting had died down, we were all outside and heard the quote of the day escape from Jacob's sweet little 4 year old mouth. I think that he was upset that the stick fight was semi-over and he said, while there was a lull in conversation, loudly, "You stupid wittle a$$!" I didn't know if I should be devestated, embarrased, or just mad. Really, I laughed. I did convince him to apologize to everyone for saying a bad word, but I have to say that it was and still is pretty funny. This is the Ward side of Jacob! :)
Here the fellas are after making up. What a fun Thanksgiving stick fight!

fun times on Turkey Day

We hung outside today. Clyde and I had so much fun playing outside with the children.
The boys were playing Star Wars, with the next best thing, sticks!
Stick fight with Ty!
Libby and Kayleigh goofin!

fun @ Grandma's

John and Raegen
What's better than playing with Cousins?!
Yum, yum butter bread!
Football fun with the boys!
Josh spent about an hour in Grandma's tree. I think that he was hiding from Summer (another cousin).

horse riding

After our meal @ Grandma Cecil's we went back to Mom and Dad's place for some more family fun. We saddled up Slim and took turns riding him. Erin went first. She guessed the right number behind Pop Pop's back. She had a blast!
I had a blast! It has been awhile since I have ridden a horse. ( I am thinking that it has been since Libby was the baby...) It took me a time, with my Dad holding the reigns, for me to get comfy on the back of Slim. However, once I got my barrings, I had fun riding him for a while in the round pin. I had Slim backing up and switching rotations, with my Dad's loving guidance that is! (My Dad & Brother, Gray, are in this photo too.)
Jacob on Slim's back. He was looking @ Aunt Maylee, when I grabbed this shot.
Libby was a bit anxious to ride, but she too loved it!
And finally our little man Josh. How cute is he?!

the brown house

Here are a few pictures of the house that we are under contract with. This is very exciting, yet nerve racking at the same time. We had our inspection today, which we passed. There are a few things that the owners will have to fix but not a deal breaker. Pray for us!!

the back yard

Isn't this the coolest? I am looking forward to sending the kids outside to play. We'll even hang an old fashioned tire swing in a tree in the back yard.

This closet was organized for two little boys. I think that we won't need dressers, which will be a nice space saver.

recliner

Last Friday Clyde had the day off. He took it off to go w/ me to Duke Medical Center for a Dr. appointment for Erin. The Geneticist wanted to postpone, so that we could see 4 Dr.s in one day. So, since Clyde had the day off, we ran around doing our Saturday errands, w/o everybody w/ us. One of our pit stops was Costco. I wanted to go down the aisle with all the dishes and then I wanted to take a peek @ the furniture. We walked down and found 2 really nice recliners. One of them was way on sale. We needed a new recliner. We'd had our navy one for the past 7 years and it was well worn and falling apart. So, we decided on one of them. Clyde dropped me and the children off @ home, got Erin from her, After school thing and went to Costco. There he got the flatbed cart and got help with the recliner. There was some question about the price. At first it was $75 more expensive than the sale price. There was also a manufacturer's discount of $75 and that hadn't been taken off. So, once Clyde and the associate figured all of it out, the chair turned out to be $75 cheaper, than the $150 worth of discounts! This is a way nice comfy chair. What a blessing for our family!
Now about our old recliner...once we bought the new recliner, we put the old one on the curb. Within 20 minutes it had been picked up. We felt better for tossing it, especially if someone else could use it. The next morning, it had been returned to the curb. Yeah, I am sure that whomever grabbed thought that they were getting a cool chair. On closer inspection they realized that it wasn't and returned it... It was definitely time for a new chair!!

house hunting

Clyde and I have been looking for a house for over a year now. I have seen at least 50 houses and there was always something not right about it. Either the house or the location. Well, I think that our hunt is over. Monday, we made an offer and they accepted it. Our loan place has a faxed copy of the contract and the originals. We are hoping for a speedy closing. We have an estimated closing date of Nov. 30th, but I am still skeptical. We were supposed to have our inspection on Monday, but our realtor, Chris, called not too long ago to reschedule. Then the date that he wanted to reschedule, Penny has her speech evaluation. That's right, she's 2 and only says 3 words. We have our theories, like she is the baby of 5 children, so she doesn't have to say anything, or that she can't, or my favorite theory is that she is just too spoiled to speak. She'd get more things that she wanted if she could say them. I have even tried signing a few things and she looks at me with a bewildered face, and walks away. That's right, spoiled...

So, we are hoping for everything to go well with the house. I think that I'd feel better once we have the keys. This is our first time buying a house, so I am really nervous. However, it is time that we are settled and in our own place. I am looking forward to painting and decorating, and most importantly making memories. Pray for us!!

bangs

Last Friday, Libby came home from school, trying to hide freshly cut hair. Just about as soon as she walked into the kitchen, from getting off the bus, I noticed the spot. I quickly asked, "Did you cut your hair?!" It was more of a bewildered statement rather than a question. She quickly said that, she "didn't remember." How could she not remember that she had cut her hair? I told her that she would have to get some bangs to cover the shorn spot directly in the center of her head. We sat on it all weekend, trying to slick it back w/ gel, but since it was so short, that sprout of hair kept poking out. So, yesterday I called Susan W. to see if she'd help out. (Susan is a good friend from our Ward.) Clyde came home from work with boxes of pizza; truly my hero, and we were off to Susan's house. She worked her magic and fixed Libby's hair. I still can't believe that Libby cut her hair. Libby said that it was in her eyes, so she thought that cutting it was the best solution. Which to say, she did get them out of her face. Once Susan cut the bangs, it looked really cute. Even Susan said that sometimes accidents turn out great. Of course she can say that, she's got magical hands with hair!! Though, I have to agree, because the bangs help to frame Libby's cute little face. Thank goodness for Susan!
