roar!

We had some playmates over last night...Plus one and her sister came to play for a few hours so that their folks could go on a date. Penny loves Plus One's sister, if you can't tell from the photo. She loved to bring her stuff to eat and to play with. Penny would even push Plus one's sister around in her walker, just to show her around the brown house. Penny loves babies!

In therapy this week, Ms. R had Penny make a lion mask. They have been talking about zoo animals and learning a few more signs for the animals. We knew the majority of the signs, for the zoo animals, that Penny was learning about, so it was mainly a review. Penny colored her mask and glued down the brown construction paper mane. (A very tedious task for apraxic hands.) Then Penny tip toed around the brown house, ready to roar @ anyone she saw pass by. She even tip toed up the stairs, in her stomp, stomp manner, and scared the boys who were chillin watching cartoons in my room. Roar! We love Penny!

i see skies of blue...

I have mentioned before that I have caught the painting bug. I have been trying to figure out colors for rooms, since we moved in. I knew right away about the downstairs colors, but was unsure of the upstairs. I was thumbing through a Pottery barn catalog {I want to live in a Potterybarn house BTW...} and spotted the perfect blue for the Wardlings bathroom.
Here was the bathroom before the painting....
And here it is today! I spent yesterday painting it, with Jacob and Penny's help of course!

I love this blue!! {{It is called poolside.}} It is a happy shade of blue. I like happy! I added the towel rack for the Wardlings towels that I embroidered for the a Christmas ago, as a finishing touch. I do need to put up a small curtain and find a prettier shower curtain for that decorative touch. Another room down, 4 more to go!

mom's getaway

This past weekend a good friend of mine, Michelle, and I were able to get away for a relaxing weekend. We left Friday night once our husbands were home from work. We had so much fun just being. Michelle has a friend who has a condo @ in Cherry Grove. He said that we could stay @ his place...for free!! How sweet! After sleeping in (7am for me...) we went out onto the beach Saturday morning. I even brought my knitting. We sat and watched people walk by & walked a bit on the beach. The weather was beautifully sunny, but a bit breezy. We didn't realize that we had been on the ocean so long until we were leaving. 3 hours! No sunscreen for me...

These pictures don't do the burn justice! I was burned. It still hurts 4 days later. I rarely burn too! The last big burn I had was on our honeymoon trip to Florida! Thankfully, this trip, I was wearing a t-shirt and jeans rolled up, or the burn would have been over more of me. My arms, neck, and face got the brunt of the sun... owie!!

Thanks Michelle and Clyde for a fabulous-o weekend getaway!

meanwhile...

Clyde had all the Wardlings this past weekend. Here's what they did:
He took them to the park...

He tattoo'd 4 of the 5 Wardlings...

He had them wash the van, inside and out...
And let them act like tarzan!
With all the fun the Wardlings had, I doubt that they missed me for one minute! Clyde is such a good daddy!

return visit

Yesterday our good friend, Dr. Ben returned to SWRMS for the day.

He talked to the middle schoolers about Africa...traditions, food, climate, animals etc.
The students simply loved Dr. Ben's visit, as they did last year. It was a real treat to have him come again!
Clyde introduced Dr. Ben to his and Jessup's social studies students. He was very eloquent with his description and introduction. I loved seeing my sweetheart in front of his classroom.
Clyde is one hot Social Studies teacher!

wed. nite scouts

I was asked to help out in scouts last night. Josh's scout leader did an excellent lesson on dressing for success. She set up a relay for the boys to do. They had to run over to the suitcase, put on all the clothes in the suitcase, take the suitcase past a taped line, take off the clothes and put them back in the suitcase, close it, zip it, and run it back to it's original position. The boys had loads of fun! They even let Jacob have a turn!

The scouts were all smiles when running this relay. They all had a fun nite and even learned to tie a square knot. Scouts = fun for Josh!

cabin fever

With the snow, comes cabin fever. To ease my fidgety-ness I made this slipcover for our loveseat. Originally, Suzanne and I made some log cabin squares for a quilt. I never got around to sewing the pieces together, let alone quilting them. Since I already had the squares, I thought that this slipcover would be easier and more fun to make. I did cut my squares in 1/4 th's and the mix matched them up and resewed them. I think that it turned out well.

We had to get out of the house yesterday. I don't think that my living room could support another busy slipcover. We had seen in the Sunday ad's a few grocery items that we needed to get and then we headed over to Costco. We met up with our pals, the Jessups, and ate some yummy Costco pizza and furthered our grocery shopping. I was glad to note that we weren't the only cabin fevered family. We saw our plus one and her folks @ Costco too! Since we were close to AC Moore, I had to take a peak. I have wanted to see if I could knit some socks. Sock yarn is a bit pricey. (about $6 per skein) I was thrilled to see in the Mills End section, this whole bag of sock yarn. I used my 40% off coupon and bought this whole 1 lb. bag for around $4. Yippee for me! Wish me luck on the socks. (There is this cool knit 2 @ a time sock book, but it is still too pricey @ amazon.)
Just a closer view of our new slip cover.
